The Disengagement Playbook

Clinical Termination of Non-Reciprocal Systems

1. Situation Detection

Apply this playbook when a relationship or system has proven to be persistently non-reciprocal (A2 violation) and the cost of continued engagement exceeds the value of the connection.

2. The Procedure

  • Step 1: The Reciprocity Audit. Document the value flow over the last 90 days. If the "Goodwill Ledger" is consistently in the negative, the system is parasitic.
  • Step 2: The Go/No-Go Decision. Set a clinical threshold for exit. What is the one action or event that will trigger the total termination of the connection?
  • Step 3: The Gray Rock Protocol. Reduce your "emotional surface area." Become as boring as a gray rock. Provide zero emotional data for the other person to use for manipulation.
  • Step 4: The Strategic Exit. Disengage with clinical neutrality. Avoid the "Grand Confrontation" (which is just more non-reciprocal drama). Simply stop the flow of your time and energy.

3. The Definition of Done

Disengagement is complete when the connection no longer occupies any of your cognitive bandwidth and you have moved your resources to more reciprocal environments.
